Nepal > Trekking > Kanchanjunga Trek

Kanchanjanga is third highest peak of the world, one of the most remote and beautiful areas in Nepal which, unused to foreign visitors, still lies shrouded in mystery. The feature of the walk are pleasant villages then in the high regions, glorious mountains and abundant wild life. It is located in the extreme northeast corner of Nepal bordering Sikkim(an Indian state) to the east and China to the North. This includes musk deer, blue sheep and for the believer, the Yeti! This trek begins at Tumlingtar or Taplejung accessible by air, or Ilam or Basantpur accessible by road. Soaring peaks, the Yalung Glacier and a wide variety of
natural vegetation and agriculture areas can be seen in this region and magnificent views of Mt. Everest, Makalu and Kanchanjunga massif will make the trip memorable.
(From Taplejung to the Yalung Glacier)
Kanchanjunga trekking
This course goes around the eastern flank of Surke Danda on its upper part, then along the Kabeli Khola, runs through the villages of the Rai and Limbu people, and reaches the innermost village in Yamphudin. From there, it follows the Omje Khola, a tributary of the aKabeli Khola, crosses Lamite Bhanjyang Pass of Deorali Danda,, goes up the Simbua Khola that flows from the Yalung Glacier, and reaches Ramze, the final destination. After Yamphudin, you will be camping in kharkas (pasture) and it is not possible to get food anywhere. It should also be remembered that, from late November on, the Lamite Pass will has snow close to one meter deep. Furthermore, there will be danger of altitude sickness after Tseram (3,890m.) and precaution is necessary.

Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, is located in the easternmost part of Nepal. The Milke Danda Range in eastern Nepal and north of Taplejung is a sanctuary for Nepal's National flower, the rhododendron. The foothills of these mountains get upwards of 3,500 mm of rain per year, triple the amount of annual rainfall of western Nepal. The effect is most visible in the thick, verdant forests and heavy undergrowth. Even at the height of the dry season, the jungle trails are lush and green. The entire trek through the humid forests of the Tamur River basin is an orchid enthusiast's delight!

This trek entails flying to Taplejung and trekking the ridge route to Kangchenjunga south base camp, then backtracking to Tseram to cross over to the northern side.
